Install a rainwater tank and harvest Melbourne's winter rainfall now!
Recent reports of an El Nino weather system approaching Australia means that hotter and drier weather conditions are on the way. This increases the likelihood of bushfires and drought for 2023/2024! Winter is a great time to have a rainwater tank installed to capture Melbourne's winter rainfall now. Water is a limited natural resource that is often taken for granted until water restrictions are enforced and there are limitations on being able to water your garden or wash your car for example.
Harvesting water from your roof and guttering system into a rainwater tank is an eco friendly way to save money and help the environment by being more sustainable.
The long-term savings to be gained by future cheaper water bills help to offset the initial installation costs of a rainwater collection system. Water from a rainwater tank can be used for the garden but also flushing toilets and cold water supply to clothes washing machines if installed correctly by a registered &/or licensed plumber.
A registered/ licensed plumber is required to connect downpipes to the rainwater tank and also connect the rainwater tank to the property's stormwater system so as to enable any rainwater overflow to be directed to the stormwater drainage system. A rainwater pump can also be connected so as to pump water to garden taps, toilet cisterns and washing machines.
There's a range of rainwater tanks available in plastic/polyethylene, steel, concrete & fibreglass that come in differing shapes and water storage capacities. Slim line polyethylene rainwater tanks are the most commonly used rainwater tanks on residential property sites. Below are photos of rainwater collection systems that Hydro Masters Plumbing installed this year. One rainwater tank is connected to gravity fed garden tap and the other is connected to rainwater pump (with main water supply back up) that supplies rainwater to toilet cisterns and cold water stop tap to washing machine.
